Terroir: The listed 15th century windmill that gives this Cru its name is set in vineyards. It is the pride of the appellation.

Soil: The terroir is made up of granitic arena and is east facing, making the most of the sun from early morning. The manganese-rich subsoil leaves its very distinct stamp on this well-built Cru.

Harvest: Hand-picked to keep the bunches whole for vinification

Vinification: traditional, fully de-stemmed, with vatting lasting an average of 20 to 30 days. Only the first press juice is used to craft this exceptional cuvée.

Maturing: in oak barrels for 9 months

Certification: HVE3, the highest French governmental environmental certification

Robe: Magnificent blackcurrant, liquorice, vanilla and ripe fruit colour

Nose: a bouquet of iris, fully blown rose, sweet spice and ripe fruit followed by undergrowth and truffles

Palate: well-built and complex, a real treat. This is a cellaring wine par excellence. The undergrowth characteristics give the wine elegance, finesse and strength

Serving suggestions: a great partner to tournedos, coq au vin, roast red meat, meat in sauce, duck steaklet, game and cheese; high gastronomy or simply for high days and holidays

Estate: We have been vinegrower-winemakers for 5 generations on the commune of Saint-Lager at the foot of famous Mont Brouilly, topped with its iconic chapel. We also craft; Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Chiroubles, Fleurie, Morgon, Moulin à Vent and Régnié, not forgetting Beaujolais Villages as well as white, rosé and sparkling wines. Our estate gained the ultimate accolade in 2016 when our Chiroubles 2015 was awarded Best Gamay in the World (Meilleur Gamay du Monde).
